Dual encodings

Alternative models with equivalent semantics

Equivalent models

Dualism collects patterns where the same knowledge can be represented in alternative ways while preserving intended semantics. Reasons include storage size, query or rule performance, tool support, or simply modeler preference. One encoding might favour explicit individuals and OP edges; another might compress with rules or relators.

Model abstraction and viewpoint shifts are analysed in [GuFi2019]; multi-level trade-offs in [FoAl2021].

Verbose triple sets vs. compact rule-driven derivations mirror the same tension: document the chosen style so teams remain consistent across modules.
