Word Sense Definitions
Word Sense Definitions (WSD) as depicted in Figure wsd-barometer2 define one or more meanings of Basic Linguistic Symbol (BLS). Be ΔX the string definition of a linguistic concept. Then, WSDs are represented as triples of the form ωW = (>BLS-W, »Def, ΔX). We abbreviate this by ωW ≡ ΔX. Thus, with X ≠ Y and with ΔX≠ ΔY we have two different definitions of the same concept W. The following examples except ωgoodWeatherRule are taken from [GoWi2015a]. Please note that the definition for ‘sad’ shows how to define an equation with an variable X.
- Δ>BLS-living_thing = (Δ>BLS-living, Δ>BLS-thing) = (living, thing)
- ωplant_(creature) = (>BLS-plants_(creature), »Def, Δ>BLS-living_thing) =
ωplant_(creature) = (>BLS-plants_(creature), »Def, (living, thing)); - ωplant_(creature) = (>BLS-plants_(creature), »Def, Δ>BLS-these_things_can’t_do_something),
where Δ>BLS-these_things_can’t_do_something = ((these, things), ((can, not), (do, something)) - ωsad = (>BLS-sad, »Def, ((X, (feels, sad)), equal(X, (feels, something)))
- ωgoodWeatherRule = (>BLS-goodWeatherRule, »Def,
- ((((the, (pressure, air)), (equal, high)), then((the, weather), (equal, good)))
