O4Top
In the sections CM Related Work and Ontologies we have already presented some top-level ontologies. Each has its pros and cons. Development of most dates back to the early 2000s. In recent years there have been hardly any improvements or extensions. This will also be due to the fact that the domain ontologies developed on their basis would be very difficult to adapt to major changes in the top ontologies. But we think the time has come to redesign a top ontology. In this section, we propose a new top ontology, O4Top, that tries to take the best of everything.
Without a doubt, this new top-ontology should get by with the smallest possible number of concepts that are largely domain-independent. The names of the concepts should be chosen in a way that is as generally understandable as possible and should be based on mathematical or philosophical technical terms that do not necessarily take over. The O4Top ontology strives to be compatible with as many standards as possible, such as RDF/RDFS/OWL/SPARL. This is intended to achieve a high degree of interoperability, performance and comprehensibility.
